Football rumors are just fake news.

Is this even true?

I’m sick and tired of being manipulated into believing all these football journalists who say this player is going to that club or this club wants to buy this player.

I have been tricked one to many times now from thinking a particular rumor about a player or a club is actually going to be true. I find myself interested in reading football news because football is a sport that’s close to my heart. However, I don’t find myself being interested anymore because whenever I read a certain post, I know that’s it’s definitely not going to be true.

That’s what the media have done to me, they have talked smack about possible football outcomes that end up being untrue in the end and have given me no motivation to believe anything that I read. And for what?

Maybe it’s to gain publicity or solely because of the fact that they enjoy providing people with false announcements. Well if that was really their plan then great job guys, you got your wish. But who knows, there can be many reasons behind it.

Take Neymar Jr for example, Neymar is a Brazilian footballing superstar who plays for the french giants, Paris Saint Germain. For the past few months, he has been rumored to rejoin his former club FC Barcelona for a ridiculous amount of money because apparently he was “unhappy” in Paris.

Post about Neymar rejoining FC Barcelona

When I first heard that rumor, I was thrilled because I’m a Barcelona fan myself. However, a few days ago I hear another rumor saying he’s going to Real Madrid CF. Like it’s got to the point where I don’t even know what to believe anymore. It only gets worse from there, after all this rumors about the Brazilian, I hear another rumor of the player stating that he’s “happy” in Paris and that he didn’t plan to moving in the first place.

Neymar states he’s “happy” at his current club.

At that point I just gave up because I knew that if I continued to follow these rumors, I’m only going to make a fool out of myself especially if I share information to my friends about him that end up being wrong.

It is these types of rumors that mess with your emotions, believing something at one point and finding out that isn’t the case at all. And that doesn’t only have to be in the topic of football but it can literally be about anything.

It doesn’t only effect the readers but also the actual players themselves who have people making false accusations against them. How do you think they would feel?

I understand that not everything in the media is true, especially when it comes to rumors. Because that’s what rumors are, news that might or might not be true. But football journalists shouldn’t consider it as rumors if they end up being wrong most of the time. They are better off not posting anything at all.

If they are going to share information that will be exposed to the entire world, it should at least have a chance of being true and with evidence to back it up or else what’s the point of sharing false information that no one is going to believe like I have found myself doing after what I’ve experienced and I’m sure many have as well.

  1. Interesting post Zen! Fake news is everywhere and in each industry whether sports, celebrities or even politics. All this fake news makes it difficult for people to believe anything on the internet, but being the gullible individual I am with many others… I always believe what news articles say until proven otherwise. HAHA!

  2. This is an important and relevant topic to talk about in this day and age. With all of these “fake news” going around, it is hard to keep track of what is true or not. These kinds of news can have detrimental effect on almost everyone. If anything I believe there needs to be some sort of awareness that will educate people with “fake news”

  3. A news channel or websites aim is to create as much traffic as they possibility can towards them to help them generate revenue. Unfortunately, the news publisher has prioritised misleading/ eye catching/ clickbait content than legitimate news. Because legitimate new is ‘ boring’.
    As trump says: fake newss!!

    1. Thanks for your comment, its a shame to hear how publishers care more about making money than providing authentic news, if that’s their goal then whats the point being a publisher in the first place?

  4. As a football fan myself, it is so frustrating that these so-called ‘journalists’ keep publishing these articles just for a few clicks. There are only some or few journalists nowadays that publish good articles that are truthful but it is so rare in today’s world. Just look at the de ligt rumours, at least three times he was said to have signed to *insert club*. If they are going to publish an article have some genuine evidence.

  5. I feel that the sports industry media chooses to publish any type of news regardless of its truthfulness. The online scene needs validation from its users. Without a meaningful amount of online traffic, many users will automatically ignore such news stories. The more likes, comments and shares, the more people will pay attention. However, I also believe, in the sports industry, that things change quite frequently. Players may feel some type of way on a certain day, while they may feel another way on a different day. The media can only try to keep up.
Also, I wish your favourite football team the best of luck and I hope they win everything so you can celebrate rather than be fooled by the sports media all the time.

    1. HAHAHAH thanks the comment especially the last part of it. But in all seriousness, judging on how popular a particular news article is, can also determine the legitimacy of it.

  6. Hmm, I won’t be surprised if these journalists are being paid by the footballer’s agent to publish ‘news’ to generate publicity and therefore market the product (footballer) and increase the monopoly/market power, so that the agent can ask for overly high prices.
